Our team did very well this weekend at the toughest tournament in the State of Oregon. The Reser Tournament of Champions held at Liberty HS in Hillsboro, OR, had 24 of the toughest teams in the state, and provided a weekend of upsets, surprises and impressive performances. The team did very well overall with a 5th Place finish behind only Roseburg, Newberg, Hermiston and Canby. Not a bad group to be among. The team had 6 individual placers led by Champion Taylor Johnson; 4th Place finishers Ryan Haney, Sean Soliz and Ben Baca; 5th Place HWT Duel Christiansen and finally Levi Brinkley in 6th place. Taylor was the class of the weigt pinning Culver's Austin Alley in the finals. Sean Soliz wrestled a masterpiece of a match in a victory over 3rd ranked Jay Tovey. Ben and Ryan both showed a ton of improvement over the course of the tournament and beat several top opponents. The big surprises for the competition were Duel Christiansen and Levi Brinkley. Both unranked and unseeded they upset several top contenders enroute to placing. The question I was asked most over the weekend was, "Who is this Levi Brinkley?" A good question after he beat two state champions on the first day of competition. We'd point you to flowrestling.org to watch video of the tourney, but our video isn't going to work for online viewing. If we find a video of Taylor's finals match, we'll upload it for your viewing. THE PLAN
If I could guarantee that you could do one thing to ensure you'll peak at the end of the season would you do it? Now that Resers is over, we have three weeks of practice before the district tournament. As is our tradition, we begin three weeks of morning runs tomorrow, January 26th. We meet at 6:15 to 7am on days when we don't compete. This week, we will meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I believe that committing to the end of the season plan is absolutely essential in order to peak for the post season. Stay tuned for videos and updates.
